General information about the Sagittaria subulata

Sagittaria subulata is an ideal foreground plant that quickly brings life to your aquarium. Thanks to its numerous runners, it quickly forms a dense carpet that colors your aquarium bottom beautifully green.

Be sure to thin out the runners occasionally ; if the plants are too close together, they'll grow tall and can even reach 60 cm – not exactly what you want in the foreground. Fortunately, under normal conditions, it stays nice and compact and forms a fresh ground cover that can also surprise you with small, subtle flowers.

This makes the Sagittaria subulata not only practical and easy to maintain, but also a cheerful eye-catcher in your scape.

TheSagittaria subulataYou can easily plant it in the foreground or middle zone of your aquarium. Use tweezers to gently place the roots in the substrate, leaving some space between the plants so they can spread out and form a carpet. It prefers a well-lit location, where it will grow faster and remain nice and compact with sufficient nutrients and CO2. Be careful not to plant it too deeply; the crown should remain just above the substrate to prevent rot.

Pruning theSagittaria subulataIt's simple: cut away the longest leaves that stick out above the rest with sharp scissors. This keeps the area nice and even and compact. You can also remove unwanted offshoots and replant them elsewhere. This prevents it from growing too wildly and allows you to control the shape of your carpet. Regular pruning keeps the plant looking fresh and doesn't block light for other aquarium plants.
