General information about the Nymphoides aquatica

The Nymphoides aquatica , better known as the banana plant, is one of the most striking aquarium plants. Its clustered tubers—which do indeed look suspiciously like small bananas—immediately attract attention. Fresh green leaves emerge from the tuber, remaining compact but sometimes also shooting upwards. A plant that is both playful and elegant, giving your scape a unique look. Easy to care for, strong in character, and definitely a talking point when someone sees your tank.

Make sure the plant is in a gentle current so the roots always receive fresh water and nutrients. A spot in the front to middle zone is ideal: that's where its striking shape is shown off to its best advantage. With sufficient light and some nutrients, it will grow steadily into a real eye-catcher.

Pruning theNymphoides aquaticaIt's simple. Remove older or unsightly leaves at the base of the plant to make room for new growth. Long leaves that grow towards the water's surface can be cut off if you want to keep it compact. Always leave the tuber alone—it's the heart of the plant. Occasional pruning keeps the banana plant healthy, fresh, and in good proportion with the rest of your garden.
