Meet our coconut shell with Java moss (Vesicularia Dubyana), an ideal addition to your shrimp aquarium. Shrimp feel very comfortable in this coconut shell. The moss is fully attached to the coconut shell and provides a natural hiding place and food source for shrimp and small fish. It also filters suspended organic matter from the water, contributing to a healthy environment for your aquatic friends.
Installing the coconut shell with Java moss is easy. Simply place the coconut shell on the bottom of your aquarium, preferably in an area with good current. This allows the moss to optimally utilize its filtering properties and ensure good nutrient circulation.
Propagating Java moss is also a painless process. Simply cut or gently pull the moss apart and place the cuttings in your aquarium. You can then position the cuttings in several ways:
- Let a piece of moss float on the surface of the water.
- Place a tuft of moss on the bottom of the aquarium.
- Tie a piece of moss lightly with string or cyanoacrylate-based superglue. Fishing wire can be used for this, although it may be visible at first. As the moss grows, it will gradually cover the wire. You can also use cotton thread, which dissolves completely over time. However, always ensure the string is securely tied to prevent fish or shrimp from becoming entangled in loose pieces. With cotton thread, the knot may dissolve and the thread may sink to the bottom, where it can be eaten by a fish or shrimp.
A handy tip: Java moss is very versatile and can be used almost anywhere. For example, you can fill gaps in ornaments with pieces of moss. Just make sure there's sufficient drainage so the moss can thrive.
