Catappa leaves (also known as Indian almond leaves) are perhaps the most popular botanicals in the aquarium hobby. And that's no surprise: they give your water a healthy boost, reduce stress in your fish, and are a real treat for shrimp. And all with a natural jungle look. 🌴

Our Catappa leaves are medium-sized (approximately 10 cm) and come in sets of 15, either individually or in mini bags. Perfect for giving your tank a tropical touch and a healthier environment.

What do Catappa leaves do in your aquarium?

Catappa leaves slowly release tannins that slightly discolor the water and lower the pH slightly. This allows you to simulate tropical conditions that many fish and shrimp love. They are also known for their antibacterial and antifungal properties – ideal for stress, disease, or shrimp farming.

Use & Maintenance

Place the leaves directly in your aquarium. They usually float at first, then slowly sink. They then release substances and tannins that make your water more natural. After a few weeks, they slowly break down – ideal food for microbes and shrimp. Tip: boil them briefly if you want them to sink faster, although you will lose some nutrients.

Alternatives & Combinations

Mix Catappa leaves with other natural products for variety, such as Cholla wood , Lotus pods or view our entire botanicals collection .
