General information about the Bucephalandra brownie Ghost Ulu Kapus
Straight from the forests of Borneo and now chilling on your lava rock: this Buce is a mood-setter with character. The leaves have that typical "Brownie" vibe – dark, glossy, and sometimes with a subtle purple shimmer in the right light. By mounting it on rough lava rock , the plant attaches securely and blends effortlessly into your hardscape. Just like with Anubias, the rhizome remains free – so don't bury it in the substrate; that's for grass, not Buce 😉
Why you want it (and your aquarium too)
- Ready-made on lava rock – just like our Anubias: unpack, place, and you're done. (The rhizome stays neatly on top!)
- Dark, chic leaves with a metallic sheen: from deep dark green to almost black, sometimes with a purple "ghost" tint.
- Compact grower – ideal for nanos, shady spots, and detailed work in your hardscape.
- Easy care – not a diva. Undemanding, it grows steadily on wood or stone.
- Ideal for aquariums and paludariums – a multifunctional talent.
- Nice hiding place for shrimps and small fish.
Care & placement
- Light: Low to medium. Bright light is fine, but gradually increase the light (shine and more compact growth).
- CO2 : optional. With CO2 and stable readings, it looks even better.
- Water: soft to medium hard; keep it stable .
- Flow: light current is appreciated (Borneo vibes 🌧️).
- Feeding: Micros in the water are sufficient; no heavy rooting tabs needed.
- Placement:
- Pruning: gently prune with scissors; you can divide shoots to spread.

A better product for a lower price
Our Bucephalandra is grown on black lava rock as standard, which helps prevent black rot and mold. This means you can place the plant directly in your aquarium, without the hassle of rockwool! You can leave the plant on the lava rock or separate it and plant it on wood. This way, you'll still have a beautiful lava rock to add to your aquarium. The choice is yours!
Ready to plant immediately
Our cultivated Bucephalandra is ready to plant in your aquarium! You can add them without any hassle, as they've already partially transitioned to underwater (submersed) habitat. Normally, a Bucephalandra needs 8 to 10 weeks to adjust, but with us, they start growing immediately. Follow our unique cultivation methods on social media for more inspiration!
