"Fresh from the nursery." Sounds familiar, just like the plants in your local store. But did you know that aquarium plants have two forms? They are submerged (underwater) and emerald (above water) forms! Aquarium plants are grown emerald, after which they take on their submerged form in our aquarium with thinner leaves and roots. Exactly what we want!

The difference between above and below water
In nature, these plants grow on riverbanks and in swamps that are flooded for one-third of the year and dry for two-thirds. The plants have adapted to this and can therefore take two forms. For example, Lobelia Cardinalis . On the left, you see the submerged form and on the right, the emerald form:
The emersed form has thicker, purple leaves. Soak the plant in water for two to four weeks, and you'll see the Lobelia transform into its submerged form.
Emers shape
The purple Lobelia is fresh from the nursery, where it's grown partially above water. This way, they only get "wet feet" and develop an above-water shape.
Recognize Emers shape
Emergent plants have thicker leaves and usually remain upright. You often see the lower leaves fall off. New leaves emerge at the top of the plant:

With us, you get emersed molds straight from the nursery for the best quality! Sometimes they're already in transition to the submersed mold.
Submers shape
We are huge fans of underwater plants for several reasons:
- They root directly in the aquarium, so no long growing-in period;
- What you see is what you get;
- We can take cuttings and grow them ourselves;
- If they grow with us, they are guaranteed to grow with you too.
